PICA's Sharing Supper with Umi Organic + Reverend Nat's

  • Reverend Nat's Cidery and Public Taproom 1813 Northeast 2nd Avenue Portland, OR, 97212 United States (map)

You're invited to a family-style community dinner to share with friends, neighbors, and supporters following the 3 pm performance of Takahiro Yamamoto's Direct Path to Detour at PICA on Sunday, May 7th.

Direct Path to Detour is a new dance work by Portland-based choreographer Takahiro Yamamoto. Grounded in the idea that a sense of who we are is rooted in our embodied experiences, this dance evokes mental and physical states at the intersection of value systems, social pressures, expectations, and personal experiences of four dancers, all of whom have an intimate relationship with bridging multiple societies by birth, residence, upbringing and/or religion. Direct Path to Detour envelops the performers in a poetic, visceral experience of resistance, surrender, sincerity, and fiction.

After the performance, forty people will share supper with Taka along one great table dotted in hot pots. Umi Organic will prepare the food (think platters of fresh vegetables, meat, mushrooms, tofu, dipping sauces, chile oils, noodles!), and Reverend Nat's the cider. The meal is another opportunity for bridging divides as we share from the same pots and cook for one another. Proceeds benefit PICA and APANO.
